People with disabilities are active and contributing members of our society. With technological and other advancements and the reduction of physical barriers and false perceptions there is more opportunity in the 21st century workforce for those with disabilities and special needs. This section provides a variety of links and resources related to employment of people with disabilities. These links and resources provide advice for individuals with disabilities seeking work; employment opportunities with various employers; help for employers looking for hard-working and dedicated employees; information on employment rights, laws and regulations; resources for employment programs and job accommodations for people with disabilities.

The Job Accommodation Network is a service of the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) of the U.S. Department of Labor. JAN's mission is to facilitate the employment and retention of workers with disabilities by providing employers, employment providers, people with disabilities, their family members and other interested parties with information on job accommodations, self-employment and small business opportunities and related subjects. JAN's efforts are in support of the employment, including self-employment and small business ownership, of people with disabilities.

I Can! was founded and built by Heidi Van Arnem, who became paralyzed at age 16. It is now a trusted online community that belongs to people affected by disabilities. It has a number of channels that cover everything from News & Opinion to Automotive to Employment to Health & Fitness and more. In the employment section you can find a number of articles on getting a job, creating a resume, succeeding at work, improving the workplace, being an entrepreneur and more.
National Collaborative on Workforce & Disability for Youth

NCWD/Youth is a source for information about employment and youth with disabilities. It provides information on disabilities, education, employment, and workforce development through its partners and experts. On the site you can find materials developed to help young people be successful in the workplace. The site also provides "The Guideposts for Success" and advice on how employers, businesses and practicioners can help steer families, institutions, and youth themselves through the transition process.
Enable: The Person Centered Planning Learning Site

Person-centered planning is an individualized and empowering approach to educational, life, and career planning for people with disabilities. Through skill development and resource training, it places practitioners in a secondary role and enables people with disabilities to direct and tailor their own plans. In this site, you will find: an overview of the person-centered planning process, a catalog of self-study courses covering the basic process involved, a quiz section to help you focus on areas you may need to cover more thoroughly, a compendium of readings and activities for you to use on your own, and various links and downloadable resources for each course.
Employment Strategies for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities

The Employment Strategies for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities area of PACER's Web site provides links to practical and informative online resources that can help youth and families explore and prepare for future careers. Information is provided on Transition IEP and Employment, Preparing for Employment, The ADA: "Know Your Rights", Vocational Rehabilitation, and more. The Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights (PACER) is a nonprofit parent training and information center that assists youth with disabilities and their families and provides technical assistance on transition issues both regionally and nationally.
National Business & Disability Council: Job Seeker Services

NBDC is a leading resource for employers seeking to integrate people with disabilities into the workplace and for companies seeking to reach them in the consumer marketplace. Students have access to (1) the NBDC National Résumé Database®, used by employers to recruit individuals with disabilities for positions in their organizations; (2) job posting pages of NBDC members, Fortune 1000 companies, and federal agencies committed to diversity in the workplace; (3) NBDC yellow pages listing local recruitment for people with disabilities; (4) career events; and (5) internship/targeted recruitment opportunities available to students and graduates with disabilities.
